A specific form of interim management is the so-called shadow management which involves temporary support of a manager in achieving a specific goal or in the process of implementing change within an organization.
The shadow manager is not directly involved in managing and executing the project but provides support to C-level managers, boards of directors, and company owners. Unlike mentoring, coaching, or consulting – with which it is often confused – it involves introducing an expert with high-level operational experience into the company to “share” responsibilities with the formal manager.
